Insects and Spiders
Saturday, July 12; 10:00 – 11:00 p.m.
Sherwood-Jayne Farm, Setauket
Take a journey into the world of insects and spiders. The program will begin with a short introduction on local insects and spiders, followed by a guided hike to collect and identify specimens using nets, bug boxes and field guides.

Dusk Hike
Friday July 25; 7:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Sherwood-Jayne Farm, Setauket
Join Seatuck for a hike Along the new trails as the sun sets for the night. We’ll keep our eyes and ears open for the many nocturnal animals that are particularly active this time of day. Bring the whole family for this quiet and relaxing evening exploration.


Nature Hike
Saturday August 9; 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.

Join Seatuck for a hike along the new trails. Learn about the trails and the habitat they pass through.

Flowers and Seeds of Summer
Sunday August 24;10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Sherwood-Jayne Farm, East Setauket
Why are flowers so special? We’ll take a close-up look at some and find out why they are designed the way they are and how they form seeds. We’ll have some fun with flowers and take a walk to find and identify some favorites.


SPLIA 25th Annual Apple Fest
Sunday, September 21;11:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Sherwood-Jayne Farm, East Setauket
The whole family will enjoy a host of activities including old-fashioned games like apple relay races, tug-o-war, and apple-head doll making. The festival features pony rides and an open- hearth colonial cooking demonstration, an Apple Pie Baking Contest and tours of the historic Sherwood-Jayne House. Seatuck will be leading hikes at noon and 2:00 p.m.


Getting Buggy
Sunday, October 12; Noon – 1:30 p.m.

Are all bugs insects? Is a spider an insect? Join us as we take a short nature walk and learn the difference between insects, arachnids, and some of the other critters we call “bugs.”

Autumn Family Scavenger Hunt
Sunday, October 19; 12:00 – 1:30 p.m.
Sherwood-Jayne Farm, Setauket
Let’s go out and learn about nature while having a little fun! With list in hand we’ll head out onto the trails and see what wildlife we can spot. The person with the most sightings will get a small prize!


Colors Of Nature
Saturday November 1; 1:30- 3:00 p.m.
Sherwood-Jayne farm, East Setauket
Autumn’s brilliant colors are on display at Sherwood-Jayne. Join us for a walk as we learn how and why nature produces such a show and how different wildlife experience it. We’ll also experiment with dyes from natural materials.

Family Autumn Night Hike
Saturday November 8; 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Sherwood-Jayne farm, East Setauket
We’ll use our owl eyes to see, fox walk to sneak, and deer ears to hear. Learning about the senses of the night and practicing how different animals function at night will allow us to experience the outdoors in a new and exciting light.

As we get close to winter, nothing is more exciting than an evening walk through the woodland trails as we listen for owls as they search for a mate and begin their breeding season!
