Throughout the country, endangered properties lists prove to be effective tools for historic preservation advocacy. With a focus on Long Island, SPLIA’s List of Endangered Historic Places aims to broadly educate the public about the region’s wide range of historic environments and provide support and greater visibility to local efforts working to save at-risk resources. Compiled through a nomination process, the list, which appears every other year, also encourages citizens to participate in defining cultural and historic significance and engage in developing alternatives to the status quo within their communities.
